An evening in the London IceBar
Drinks, Ice and Food
If you’re in London and looking to get away from all this humid weather without actually leaving the city, why not try the London Ice Bar just off Regent Street. And yes, it is actually made of ice! Your glasses are ice, walls, chairs and bar all ice. Luckily, if you do need the loo while you’re there, you won’t have to hover over a freezing toilet. All the ice is harvested from the Torne River in Jukkasjärvi, Northern Sweden. Don’t worry about dressing for winter as you’re given a thermal poncho (prettier than it sounds) with a fur hood and gloves attached so frostbite isn’t an option when holding your drink.
When the doors open you feel as though you’re stepping into a frozen glacier, you can nearly see the ice rolling off of the walls. Due to the temperature in the bar, which is a constant -5°C, you’re only allowed an allotted time (40 mins) in the venue and you should book to ensure your entry. £16.50 is the basic weekend price including a sprit based drink from their menu. Then all other drinks vary from £3 upwards.
One customer said, “It’s a shame that the slots are only 40 minutes long. I’d stay all evening if I could!”
However, entry is cheaper on a weekday, they also open from around 12pm depending on the day. It’s the perfect stop if you’re looking for something different to do in the evening or if you’re looking to break up shopping day with a cocktail in the ice. The IceBar is situated in the Heddon Street food quarter which is surrounded by multiple bars and restaurants if you’re looking to make it a bar crawl or an evening event.
IceBar London also has its own a la carte restaurant attached offering a range of food, Dine and Bar offers are available too. The menu is reasonably priced for an upper market restaurant. For those inclined there is also a warm bar located in the restaurant area of the venue. Minors are welcome during the daytime sessions if accompanied by an adult; a valid ID may be required. The venue does also have a lift for those not able to use stairs and a member of staff is always around if you need any help.
