Blackheath Fireworks
Fun, Free and Fabulous... you can't complain!
Remember, remember the 5th of November – well not quite… but make sure you put a note in your diary for the nearest weekend to that date. Why? I hear you ask me, because on that weekend South London skylines are awash with colours and explosions courtesy of the ever popular Blackheath Fireworks.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of Londoners and tourists flock to the little village-esque suburb of Blackheath to indulge in a night of festivities, fireworks and fairground rides. Expect to see light up swords everywhere, hot dogs being served by the dozen and one of the best fireworks display there is to witness in London – did I also add that it’s free? Funded by Lewisham council and a host of other local businesses, the fireworks are a must if you’re visiting London in the autumnal months. With a friendly crowd and some great pubs around the area of the display, it’s a fun evening for the family as well as a group of friends.
One word of warning though, the roads and surrounding area absolutely packed with pedestrians in the hours leading up to the display - so make sure you get up there early in order to get the best view. The fairground opens at 12pm and the bars and catering begin serving at 5pm, so there’s plenty to keep you entertained beforehand and after the show as well. The pick of the bunch when it comes to the pubs would be The Princess of Wales which is conveniently located practically upon the heath, so you can watch the display from out the front with a nice pint (or whatever takes your fancy) in your hand. Greenwich is also nearby and has a great selection of restaurants and bars which you can walk to within 20 minutes from the heath.
So, a great occasion within the capital that is free, you don’t have of that very often, do you? If you’re visiting London in November make sure you head on down to Blackheath and enjoy an incredible display.
