Culture At Lunchtime
Be still small voice of calm
If you are at loss for a place to spend an hour or so at lunch-time and get a bit of culture in one London’s premiere settings for music – look no further than St Martin-in-the-Fields. Amongst the hustle and bustle of Trafalgar Square’s touristic commotion – there is the solace of this wonderful church with its now famous performances. It has hosted performances by Handel and Mozart during the 18th century and I was lucky enough to attend a performance by the Isbilia quartet. They are four highly talented graduates of Trinity Laban Conservatoire and they performed an exquisite collection of selected pieces from Haydn, Shostakovich and Dvořák. The place was packed to the gunnels with appreciative audience visitors with whom I was fortunate enough to share this experience with.
What was the cost of this little piece of heaven on earth – absolutely nothing! A donation to the church of £3.50 is suggested but it is entirely up to you. Definitely great value and you will have the knowledge that you are contributing to the support and care of the local homeless which the church is very actively involved in.
London is an incredible stage for all sorts of cultural events such as these performed with virtuosity, diversity and creativeness. You just need to look out for the events as they occur to get the very best out of visiting the city
