Dover Street Market
High Fashion Market Stalls
London is one of the world’s fashion capitals. If you wonder round the city at any given time, you will see people wearing clothes from all sorts of cultures, designers and stores. People flock to the capital for London Fashion Week and the range of different brands that the city contain,s and one of the most important places to visit for any fashionista is Dover Street Market.
Situated on Haymarket in the former Burberry Building, Dover Street Market is the love child of Rei Kawakubo – the founder of legendary Japanese label Comme des Garçons and contains stalls from designers ranging from Gucci through to Nike via a range of other high fashion and independent institutes. Set out across multiple different floors and containing an art gallery and café, the ground floor is covered in Kawakubo’s brand with perfumes, clothing, shoes and an assortment of other items being available to purchase. Dover Street’s biannual ‘Tachiagari’ event see’s the store close for a while in order for the traders to alter their concessions, meaning the space is constantly evolving and changing, so make sure that you check the store is open before planning your trip when visiting the capital.
For lovers of high fashion and streetwear, Dover Street Market really is the Holy Grail. The store’s broad stocklist and range of different designers means that you can a true insight into the world of fashion within the capital. My personal highlights were Nike Lab and Noah which were situated in the basement, but all of it was incredibly intriguing. Once you’re tired of all the browsing, hope in the lift to the top floor and have a lovely cup of coffee at the Rose Bakery.
