I'm gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
Take a deep breath
If Eddie Grant’s time is over, his spirit lives on in Electric Avenue – a throbbing hub of activity which has to be seen at least once. If you want to avoid the crowds of people in Brixton Road, go to the very cosmopolitan area just near Brixton Tube.
Don’t be afraid of the hawkers and peddlers at the cross-roads who want to sell you everything from mangos to manikins . After a polite ‘no thanks’ reinforced a few times, your message will sink in. Just down the avenue is the world famous Brixton Market where practically everything is available. Behind the stalls lie rows of shops and exotic eateries providing food from all corners of the globe. The sights, smells, sounds and flavours of Electric Avenue are a welcome assault on the senses. It is easy for the visitor to be over-awed by this part of Brixton, but step forward boldly and inhale.
Atypique !
