An innocuous doorway on just another street serves as the entry point to something really unique – the Evans and Peel Detective Agency. Make your way down the stairs and into a real life detective story. Evans and Peel say that they specialise in “blackmail, missing persons and armed personal protection”.

On my visit, I was ushered into a room where a special story was woven just for me – a very professional actor sat through my giggling very patiently! It’s an introduction to the hard-boiled detective scene beyond.

It’s a beautifully decked out speakeasy atmosphere beyond, and you wouldn’t know at all from the street level. Here, the menu includes delicious burgers and other simple comfort foods. All this alongside classic, classy cocktails with a vintage vibe.

This is not just another cocktail bar, or even one of the dozens of speakeasy-style places that have popped up in London these days - they do seem to be very trendy these days. Evans & Peel is a particularly unique experience – a fun way to have cocktails and a meal with friends, somewhere a little outside the norm. Make an appointment online and you too can have a one of a kind experience in the west end. Mine was unforgettable!
