Four Quarters

Retro fun in the heart of The South

Retro is the in thing right now. Whether it’s the return of Vinyl and 35mm film cameras or the sudden wave of everyone appearing like they’ve just stepped out the 80’s, there’s no doubting that retro is having a moment. However, this need for the old school doesn’t just stop at clothes and records, it also covers gaming and this explains furore and popularity of Four Quarters in Peckham.

We’ve all heard it, whether it’s in the newspapers, in the pub or on TV – Peckham is cool now. With a host of bars, clubs and pubs available and catering to all kinds of audiences but arguably the coolest of them all is Four Quarters. A tiny little place that’s split across 3 floors, Four Quarters allows it’s punters to play a wide assortment of games consoles and arcade machines as they drink the night away. Upstairs there’s consoles such as the PlayStation 1 and the legendary Sega Mega Drive whilst the main bar plays host to the arcade machines and timeless classics such as Street Fighter and Time Crisis. All the machines take quarters which gives that authentic feel to the place and don’t despair if you don’t have a pocket full of the American cash, there’s a change machine next to the bar which trades 4 quarters for a pound. The bar serves a great selection of craft beers and there’s plenty of options if you prefer the spirits. There is also ‘American Grill’ style food available if you get hungry after all that button bashing.

Situated on Rye Lane and with Bussey Building and Canavans open till the early hours (although Four Quarters keeps going till 2am), Four Quarters is a brilliant place to just pop in for a fleeting drink or spend the whole night in. Get lost in the world of arcade games and nostalgia as you re-visit your childhood through this wonderfully fun little place.
