ICCO
The Authentic, The Affordable
I was brought to ICCO first by a friend who worked in the area. Once you’ve been, you’ll probably be amused to see how many pizza boxes float around Fitztrovia around the Lunch period (especially if you’re going to ICCO; it’s a little trail of pizzas leading you to your destination.) The restaurant itself immediately made me think of Little Italy in New York City, which is an authentic Italian experience all on its own. It has subway tiles and large, sleek stainless steel tables for you to eat or wait. The biggest selling point, though, is the fair price. With the Margherita pizza (and a full, 12” pizza, not a slice or a tiny baby thing that you can get elsewhere) starts under £5.
It’s a fun atmosphere to wait in, and though, admittedly, the pizza itself is incredibly greasy (I often use several napkins to dab off the excess) it is very tasty. If you want your pizza even more oily or, like in my case, want to swap them out for a different flavour, there are several bottles that are shared around the restaurant for you to choose from. Overall it’s a fun, open place to meet up, have a pizza, or even stop by after a date from the British Museum, which is just a stroll away.
So for great tasting pizza in a cool, I’m in New York City vibe, head to ICCO, where you’re guaranteed to receive your food fast, fresh, and for an incredibly reasonable price. Perfect for students, any of the 50,000 or so of you that work in the area, or any passer-by that was (probably) heading to the nearby shop for a meal-deal.
