Kingston’s Ancient Market

Market shopping in historic surroundings

Kingston upon Thames has been home to a bustling market for centuries with the oldest surviving records dating back to the early 1200’s, and Kingston’s historical market is still thriving today. The market area has great character and architecture and gives a great feeling when wandering around there.

The ancient market of Kingston is composed of 29 permanent stalls and trades 7 days a week, from 10am to 5pm. This market sells everything from fruits and vegetables to Japanese food. You can find stalls such as Chilli Cha Cha, which sells Authentic North Indian food or Mama Sephlyn, known for traditional Carribean cuisine served with love. What I enjoyed the most, even if I didn’t had the chance to try every type of food, was the Vietnamese street food at Phoreal (which I think is a good pun by the way); it was actually the best Vietnamese food I had in my whole life.
These stalls offering great food at reasonable prices, perfect for lunch when shopping. Much cheaper than any of the sit down cafes and restaurants too.

Also, the market is not huge, but compact, with neatly arranged stalls so the pedestrians can easily walk through. Either way, if you want to buy great and fresh food while being in a cute place, I highly recommend this market !
