Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town

It's a place not a person

Cities love their speakeasies. Initially what was a necessity in the Prohibition era has now become something of a theme you can find on every corner of London. Secret bars. 20s themed nights. Swing dancing. There are too many establishments to count that try to offer their share of the past.

The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town is one such establishment, in the sense that it evokes a secretive, underground feel the moment you get in. You are supposed to see the Mayor, but I honestly can’t remember if my friend even did that. The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town (at least, the one we went to) is located underneath one of the Breakfast Club’s establishments. We had brunch there, and asked if there was any room downstairs. We waited a tad, and then were brought through a fridge into a secret entrance that took us downstairs into, admittedly, a very cool bar.

The drinks are different and quite tasty, which does offset just how much they cost. The atmosphere, however, is fantastic. Only a few people can squeeze in to the small space, and between the exclusivity, the décor, and the ambiance that comes from a mixture of feeling like you’re in on a secret and being intimately underground, you’re sure to find something to love.

It’s certainly a fun experience! We, being the poor, broke students that we were, only bought one drink each, but for once I didn’t feel like I had squandered my money. It certainly wasn’t just a regular gin and tonic for a ghastly tenner, at least. Think of it more as a combination between being dessert and a drink, and between the tastiness of the drink and the secrecy of your venue (and the décor, oh how I love trendy décor) the price is offset quite well.
