Mildreds

Veggie/Vegan food in Soho

London is on a health kick. New gyms, juice bars and healthy eateries are popping up all over the capital as people look for ways to fight off the pound and to keep active outside of their office jobs. There are now more vegans and vegetarians within London than ever before as its citizens become more aware of what they are eating and the implications it’s having. Unsurprisingly this has led to a boom of vegan and vegetarian restaurants and cafes with companies such as Pret leading the way. However, hidden down the backstreets of Soho and packed out everynight is the best of the bunch, Mildreds.

Mildreds is an all vegan/vegetarian restaurant that is absolutely rammed every night of the week. With a brilliant menu ranging from dumplings, pies, burgers and pasta Mildreds food is enough to convert even the most hardened meat eater. Initially I was sceptical, I thought I wouldn’t get full up on the food but the moment I took a bite of my halloumi and aubergine burger with tahini and harissa paste, I was in foodie heaven. My girlfriend (who is vegetarian) had a mushroom and ale pie with thick cut chips and minted mushy peas, which was a proper winter warmer. Mildred’s doesn’t take reservations and does get extremely busy on Friday/Saturday nights so get there early, take a seat at the bar and grab a cocktail or two before you are seated. The atmosphere is bustling and the staff are incredibly friendly and chatty and are happy to talk you through the menu should you have any questions at all.

So head on down to Mildreds for some clean eating in a lovely environment within the busy streets of Soho. Make a day of going around the unique business the area has to offer and stop in at one of the best restaurants in the capital.
