Ever wanted to be a tree?
A VR exhibition like no other
If you have visited the Saatchi Gallery before you will know what to expect. Loads of space, lots of big blousy oils and plenty of moody, atmospheric photography. However, for something completely different visitors should try the Ocean of Air Installation below ground. Even if you are very familiar with VR exhibitions we can guarantee that you will have experienced nothing like this.
If you can imagine being in a tree and connected to the earth by its roots, if you can imagine breathing psychedelic granules of breath into the atmosphere, if you can actually imagine being in the tree itself – then this is what the exhibition is all about. Followers of Game of Thrones will be able to resonate with “being Brann” because one minute you are you, excitedly waiting to get your kit on. They turn you on and all of a sudden you are flying in the air, part of the ether or simply underground amongst the root system of a mighty sequoia. Just get your VR headset on and get whisked up into the canopy of a giant tree – the biggest tree in the world – whilst you touch, smell and feel light and colour all around you.
The show is named "We Live in an Ocean of Air" and brings together technology, art and science to explore the connection between plants and people and actually become part of nature. It’s a 20-minute experience that is over in a flash but will take your breath away. For a natural high unlike anything else you have experienced, this is a VR show to top them all. Sadly it will soon be gone but doubtless will be making an appearance again soon. Wow!
