Soho – The “Pigalle de Paris”
Things got better in Soho
In central London, Soho is a very dynamic area with plenty going on. For many years, it was particularly seedy and Soho was known for the sex industry and was the home for many sex shops, bars and illegal brothels.
Today is very different, you still find sex shops, but also bars, pubs and nightclubs. Soho is very similar to Pigalle in Paris. It's still a very lively area with a proliferation of straight and gay bars.It might also be one of the most commercial area of London ....but a shoppers paradise ? Well let's just say there are several options and some shops are just a little bit…different.
How about the Seven Dials, where there are more international franchises and some unique shops ? There is also the Liberty store, it's expensive but it's beautiful. It is really cool to admire the wooden building and high quality products.
One recommendation is that you go and see the nearby beautiful National Gallery which provides the best of European painting : Van Gogh, Leonardo Da Vinci, Michel Angel, Velasquez, Gainsborough… If that is not enough, you can also go through the National Portrait Gallery which is highly original- and although not in Soho very close by.
