The Creamery: Ice Cream of the East
Screaming for (more) Ice Cream
It’s a chain of ice cream stores that actually provides you with portion sizes that you can stuff yourself on. Meaning it’s perfect for when you have a really bad ice cream craving but don’t want to break the bank. The décor is unusual. The entire time I was there I was convinced it had been a night club that was refurbished, complete with a disco ball in the corner. But you can’t beat good value, and that is what the Creamery offers.
It’s not just ice cream, either – you can get a cookie skillet, which was so good it melts on your tongue, a wide variety of flavours of milkshakes, and so many different types of ice creams and ice cream sundaes. The ice cream sundaes are massive, and colourful, and the amount of joyous, ecstatic and hyper children there were in the establishment tells me that they agreed so too. The Creamery is where you go to stuff your face with ice cream, not for a fancy meal. It’s a down-and-dirty business of sugar, and doesn’t really pretend to be anything else. The flavours are also, surprisingly for how cheap the ice cream is – absolutely spot on. The Bueno milkshake? Superb. It was so completely not what I am used to that it threw me off, made me feel slightly out of place, but once the mountains of ice cream were placed in front of me I changed my mind. There was no better place to be (until your tummy ache tells you otherwise!)
That, and with Shoreditch and Brick Land (as I went to the branch in Dalston) just a short walk away, it was the perfect combination to ease our stomachs. So for those days when nothing else will do but ice cream (no matter the season, ice cream is always a valid craving) the Creamery is the place to go!
