Theatre Cafe
Enjoy a stagey coffee
For anyone that is as much of a fan of musicals as me, you will love this cafe that I stumbled upon the other day. A street I have walked down many a times, Shaftsbury Avenue, I couldn’t believe that it had been previously overlooked! It was raining (don’t you just love the winter) and I was in desperate need of my daily caffeine dose; amongst the dull grey wash that is London in the rain, my eyes were drawn to a window sporting some bright neon lights. And that’s when I saw it: The Theatre Cafe! I was intrigued, of course, and it seemed like the perfect spot so I made my way inside, and I was very glad I made that decision!
The place was warm and cosy, covered almost completely wall to wall with posters from every single musical you could possibly imagine! My ears were greeted with all of my favourite musical songs; I could have sat there for hours just to listen to the soundtrack. They offered deliciously tempting cakes and hot drinks; I think my favourite thing about it was the theatrical names. I do love a pun, so I very much enjoyed that they offered a ‘My Fair Latte’ a ‘Cats-accino’ and even a ‘Defying GraviTEA’! When I settled down with my ‘Cats-accino’ and a little cake (I did say they were tempting and I have zero willpower!) I noticed each table was equipped with iPads. On the iPads you can check out all the events that are going on in London theatre land! I could browse for latest show info and gossip and even buy tickets! In the end, I rang up my friend to see if she was free for the following day, and purchased 2 tickets to a show! It’s definitely a spot that you will only find in London, so next time you’re in Central, why not pop in and warm up with a hot drink!
