My Favourite Netflix Shows to Watch Before I Arrive
The ones you must 'binge-watch'
On your way to London, you can get bored easily by the duration of your flight, or even during your stay when the weather gets you stuck at your accomodation.
You don't know what to do and you'd like to practise your English before putting a feet on the UK ground ?
Don't worry, I have the perfect solution for you : British TV shows.
Here's a Top 5 of them that are available on Netflix at the moment :
1- Misfits (2009-2013) : This comic and dramatic show is probably the one who made me laugh the most.
The story takes place in London (the shooting was in South East !) where a group of young offenders are sentenced to work in a community service programme.
One day, a strange electrical storm strikes upon them and gives the teenagers supernatural powers that matches to their crazy personality.
You might not be thrilled by the plot, but the show has won a BAFTA for the category of Best Drama Series, so it's definitely worth it.
[WARNING : This show is for mature audience]
2- Skins (2007-2013) : Between drug, alcohol, and sex, the TV show follows teenagers from Bristol that deals with various issues of life such as dysfunctional families, mental illness, sexuality, gender, Autism spectrum disorder, death, or even bullying.
It might sound sad and bitter, but it's actually very funny.
The thing is, you can cry from laughing and then from saddest within a minute. It's a very touching show that has won various BAFTAs during its airing which proves how good it is.
[WARNING : Also for mature audience]
3- Black Mirror (2011-) : Definitely the best show to watch during your flight because it’s an anthology show (meaning that each episode has its own story).
Basically, it’s about the risks of the technology we use every day, presented as a dystopia.
The TV show got really successful because of how real the dystopias were in some episodes.
Furthermore, there’s a special interactive episode entitled “Bandersnatch” where you decide what the protagonist is going to do next.
Black Mirror has won a few Emmy Awards through the years that legitimize its reputation as one of the best British TV shows of the History.
[WARNING : This show is for mature audience, again]
4- Peaky Blinders (2013-) : This crime drama television series BAFTA and TCA* winning is set in Birmingham in the aftermath of World War I. It follows the Shelby family who belongs to the Peaky Blinders (a criminal crew who makes the law in the city).
After stealing the government’s weapons, cops are being send at the order of Winston Churchill to get those guns back. Obviously the Shelbys won’t give them back, and that’s how the drama begins.
*TV Choice Awards
5- The Crown (2016-) : This TV show is currently the most famous in the UK because it retraces the history of the United Kingdom royalty with characters that actually existed/exists such as the Queen Elizabeth II, her sister Margaret, her husband Philip, their son Prince Charles, etc…
The Crown has made its proofs by winning a lot of awards like the BAFTAs, the Emmys, and else !
