Vauxhall Winter Village
It's never too early to start feeling festive!
Yes, I know it is only November and Christmas isn’t for another month and a half away but I’m sorry - I am just one of those people that likes to get in to the spirit of things! And I’m sure that 90% of people enjoy getting excited for the event as soon as Halloween is over! Luckily, London is very much accommodating of these people (Christmas carols, decorations, lights, the lot - London is ready!). So, I was very much impressed with the Winter Village that has just arrived in Vauxhall! Hidden behind a secret doorway underneath the railway bridge, the venue has been transformed in to a pop-up ski town, with all the trimmings! Decorated in fairy lights, fake snow, little winter huts and even has elves serving up your food! They have a variety of food stalls on offer; I went for calamari and chips (freshly caught the day before AND with home made aoili) and my other half went for a chinese mix (by far the best chinese food I’ve ever tasted!). Yes, I know this may not seem like seasonal food but we made up for it with some bespoke winter cocktails afterwards! They also have mulled wine and cider, not to mention some hot chocolate, I was too full to have any so I can’t vouch for taste but it smelled delicious! Open until 10pm, I think it is best to visit in the evening when it is a little busier and the twinkly lights will definitely get you in the Christmas spirit (even if you are a bit of a Scrooge!) And don’t forget about the Christmas songs, those will be in full swing also! The only thing I was a little disappointed by was the distinct lack of mince pies, but the rest of it was great so I suppose they can be forgiven!
