PIN 2 Willow Road
Treasures of the British Modern Movement
This terraced house was designed and built in Hampstead by the architect Erno Goldfinger, known as one of the most important figures in the modern movement of Britain, who lived here until he died in 1987. It is hugely influential as it is the only modernist house that is open to public gaze and is a superb example of the style. It features a spiral staircase designed by Ove Arup and a highly spacious interior with bespoke furniture and 20th century artworks by Bridget Riley, Marcel Duchamp and Henry Moore.
History
Erno Goldfinger was a Hungarian architect and designer of furniture who moved to the United Kingdom in the 1930s and became a key member of the Modernist architectural movement. Before World War 2 Goldfinger built three houses ( including his own) at 1-3 Willow Road - 2 Willow Road is now in the care of the National Trust.
