PIN Bao Fa Garden

Chinese Restaurant with Beautiful River Views

The Bao Fa Garden is one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants in London. It`s sister restaurant, the Bao Fa Garden in Shenyang the capital of Liaoning, RoC, is recognised as a leading light in northern Chinese cuisine. Visitors accustomed to Chinatown`s hustle and bustle and close set tables will enjoy a far more `roomy` and bright environment with spectacular views over the Thames

The Bao Fa Garden is the only Chinese restaurant on the South Bank and is located in County Hall about 2 minutes walk from the London Eye. Visitors will need to look out for the entrance to the restaurant and the set of stone steps leading to a first floor garden.

The Dining Experience

The restaurant serves a fusion of northern chinese and western cuisine as well as traditional local dishes made from the freshest ingredients. Guests can expect a plethora of unique flavours, textures and colours. Expect to invest a good 2 hours here which will be well worth the effort

Diners can sample a beautiful 10 course meal in plenty of space with inspirational views in an authentic Shenyangese environment. The experience is served in a light, comfortable and spacious environment where the exquisite views are matched by a beautifully crafted and presented menu.

The food is created by award winning chef Jinseng Zheng and his team. Jinseng learned his craft in native Northern China. His signature dishes include Beijing Duck and fresh seafood hotpot created daily . Seafood is collected from Billingsgate at 3.00 am each morning whilst other ingredients range from corn-fed chickens, fresh cod cheeks & locally caught crayfish.

There is also a dazzling array of fresh fish, traditional Dim Sum, a vast choice of noodles which are coloured and flavoured with fresh vegetable and fruit juices. The Soya Bean ice cream is both popular and delicious. Southern China is also represented with an extensive Szechuan menu incorporating unique tastes from area.

For very special events and given 24 hours notice the restaurant will produce a customised menu for different size parties. The average spend per person is from £35-£59 per head.

The Decor

Diners can sample a beautiful 10 course meal in plenty of space with inspirational views overlooking the River Thames in an authentic Shenyangese environment. The decor and environment have been created with authentic furniture and artefacts from tables and chairs, to the wall mounted musical instruments; shipped directly from China. Don't miss the hand carved wooden screens donated by the Chinese government in recognition of the restaurant's outstanding contribution to international cuisine.

Other stuff

What is really delightful about this restaurant is their attention to detail to ensure authenticity - ranging from imported chinese furniture to the careful display of pots and ornaments.

The staff are very friendly, kind and helpful, which all helps to contribute to a comfortable and pleasant ambience Try and get a table overlooking the river Thames, with its big windows allowing for natural light to entrance the restaurant.

How to get there

The only down-side, is the place is difficult to find, with the entrance
being tucked away - but well worth the hunt. If you are walking toward Westminster Bridge with the River to your right, walk past the London Eye and look out for County Hall on your left. You will then see the sign for Bao Fa Garden and a set of stone steps that should take you up to a first floor garden and the restaurant’s front door.

"Western twists on eastern classics"

I went here for a business lunch and enjoyed every morsel. They have taken classic Chinese food and developed a new east meets west haute cuisine style. Excellent location and great food at a reasonable price. Excellent Staff.
