This is a great place particularly when it's warm enough to stand outside. Minty, limey mojitos are enough to ignite a memorable evening
PIN Cubana, Lower Marsh
Home of the Mojito
This is an authentically Cuban restaurant in Lower March near Waterloo Station. You cannot miss it because of the large ethnic mural on the side of the building at the end of the road (there is another Cubana in Smithfield Market). They do cocktails, food and coffee – with a very Cuban feel about ii. It is very popular with the evening crowd particularly with its ‘two-for-one’ happy hour after 5.30. It is always busy which is perhaps testament to the quality of its product and all served up in a colourful atmosphere. It mixes a little South American chaos with a great South London vibe and is a big hit with locals and visitors alike. It is definitely not on the main tourist route – which is a major attraction.
The Food and Drink
Coffee here comes courtesy of Cuba’s Caribbean mountains providing one of the world’s best coffee growing climates, where the coffee grows in rich, loamy soils under the shade of native trees, in a natural environment, tended by farmers who hand their skills down through generations. The result is a light but strong coffee which epitomises the qualities of Cuba!
The food at the Cubana is a heady mix of Spanish, African, Caribbean and French influences. Fresh, healthy cooking, prepared with quality ingredients. They use free-range chicken, pork and eggs and Marine Stewardship Council certified wild fish, as well as prime 100% British beef and organic single-origin chorizo from Spain. The menus include traditional, slow-cooked Cuban dishes alongside tapas, Latin American specialities and barbacoa dishes prepared on out robata grill – plenty of vegetarian choices too
And to drink? It’s got to be a mojito. They freshly press their lime juice every day which is then hand mixed with fresh mint leaves and raw organic cane sugar. With a splash of genuine Cuban rum (specially imported) it comes in large jugs. All of their luscious, tropical cocktails and smoothies are made with fresh fruits and juices – you can taste the difference!
TripTide Thoughts
The food is great. Decoration is very professional with lots of Cuban posters from the 60's. Great service and pretty lively.
