A little green and pleasant oasis lies in the midst of streets, estates and inner city bustle and is known as the Culpeper Community Garden. It is one of the most valued and verdant public spaces in Islington







Culpeper Community Garden is a beautiful public open space in the heart of Islington, London, which serves both as a city park and as an environmental community project. Managed by and for local people, it is a unique project where people from all walks of life come together to appreciate and enhance their environment. Full of pathways, ponds and plants it is a magnet for children and adults, locals and visitors or just travellers `happenstancing` over this wonderful piece of green space.







It was opened in 1982 by local people around Islington and is one of the oldest community open space in UK. The garden is managed by 11 people each year who are elected by garden members and come from each part of the community. The park received the `London in Bloom` award many times because of its contribution to community activity and the beauty of the garden. It is named in memory of the 17th famous botanist and herbalist Nicholas Culpeper.
