Gateway to the West
Hammersmith Bridge is a bridge on the Thames located in the West of London, in the South of the region of Hammersmith in the district of Hammersmith and Fulham on the north bank of the river.
He allows the traffic and the pedestrians to pass to Barnes in the South of the river.
This bridge measures 210 m of length and 13 m of wide.
History
The construction of a bridge was authorized by a law voted by the Parliament of England in 1824 and the construction strictly speaking began the next year.
It was the first suspension bridge of the Thames and he it was conceived by Guillaume Tierney Clark.
The current suspension bridge was founded in 1887 and conceived by the famous civil engineer Joseph Bazalgette.
The new bridge was built by Dixon, Appleby and Thorne. It was Inaugurated by the Prince of Wales on June 11th, 1887.
