Guided Jack the Ripper Tour with drinks
Jack the Ripper; an enigma that has survived over a century despite being the subject of intense scrutiny and countless attempts to solve.
As the night falls, and the shadows encircle the streets of Whitechapel, Giles your tour guide (with over 14 years experience) quickly transports your mind back to Victorian London. Amongst the squalor and intense poverty of the East End, it is easy to visualize the hordes of sailors dis-embarking from the nearby Port of London looking to spend their hard earnt money.
This is a city where poverty and squalor combined with disease have resulted in an average life expectancy of 37 years. As boat after boat of sailors disembark at the nearby Port of London after months at sea, they are keen to spend their hard earnt money.
Prostitution was so rife that it was not uncommon for many houses and pubs to be a brothel. It is against this backdrop that you are quickly transported; one where life is cheap and death and destitution is commonplace despite London being (and possibly still!) the wealthiest and most powerful city in the world.
The Metropolitan Police
The Metropolitan Police force had only been recently formed in 1829 when a series of murders so hideously brutal shocked Victorian society. These were carried out with surgical precision, details of which are still hard to comprehend. A total of over 70 butchers were visited by the Metropolitan Police as part of their investigations.
The Tour
This tour will cover all the main suspects and locations (where still physically possible) of the Whitechapel murders. Also, we will stop in two of the famous (or infamous) Victorian pubs and pass what is now named 'Happy Days' (fish and chip shop) where the only clue possibly from Jack himself (or herself!) was removed to stop a potential riot. To say anymore would be unfair!
