PIN Mrs King`s Pork Pies

Melton Mowbrays finest (in Borough)

From a modest stall in Borough Market with a few products visitors can buy that most British of pies – a Melton Mowbray pork pie of the highest order. That is not all for the very hungry there are also sausage rolls on sale (another UK staple) that are of an equally high standard.

The business, based in the county of Nottinghamshire, is owned and run by Paul Hartland who ensures that every pie is hand made to Mrs Kings explicit requirements. Using only the finest ingredients, this latest generation of family bakers ensure that every pie that bears the name Mrs King is made with the kind of loving care, craftsmanship and pride that Elizabeth King would be proud of today.

Elizabeth King started her small family bakery in 1853, during the reign of Queen Victoria. The Victorians loved their food and, it seems, were very partial to a tasty pie because soon people were coming from far and wide in search of Mrs King’s delicious savoury pies. With their mouth watering pastry, delicately flavoured jelly and succulent meat these Melton Mowbray Pork Pies established a standard of excellence which has been preserved and passed down through generations of piemakers.

Where and when?

Since 1998, Mrs King’s Pies have made the journey south to the famous Borough Market, close by the River Thames. A veritable paradise for ‘foodies’, you can spend all day at this lively market, wandering amongst the stalls, watching live cooking and even sampling before you buy. You can find them there from Wednesday - Saturday.
