Lido in central London

There is a hidden oasis in central London, which goes by the same name! The Oasis Sports Centre, five minutes from Covent Garden and Holborn tube stops is a real gem. In the true spirit of English democracy, this complex is owned by the Council and so accessible by all as otherwise this could have been an exclusive private members club for a very few.

The Lido

There is a 27.5 meter outdoor pool, which is heated and open all year round in addition to an indoor pool plus a fully functional gym. But it does not stop there!

Above the outdoor pool is a dedicated sunbathing area with benches (beware of the summer heat when the stone floor gets hot so bring flip flops!). As you are basically surrounded by office blocks and flats, there is very little wind and at the height of the summer on a beautiful day, it gets crowded. If you swim in the middle of winter, the steam off the outdoor pool is a sight to be witnessed and is a totally invigorating experience.

Facilities and Relevant Details

There is also a fully functional gym with classes, squash courts and studios. You can pay on the day (swimming and sunbathing all day if you like for £5.55). The Centre is open 6.30am to 10pm weekdays and 9.30am to 6pm weekends. Make sure you bring a towel and some refreshments if you plan to spend a few hours swimming and sunbathing and the obligatory sun cream!
