PIN The RAF Museum Hendon

A flight through time

The Royal Air Force Museum London is a national museum dedicated to the history of aviation and the Royal Air Force. Located in Hendon it presents a magnificent collection of aircraft through the ages. It has more than 100 aircraft and rare planes such as the only two surviving Vickers Wellingtons and the only Boulton Paul Defiant in the world.

History

The museum was opened at the Colindale London site on 15th November 1972 by Queen Elizabeth II. The hangars housed 36 aircraft at the opening. Over the years, the collection increased, and aircraft, when not on display at Hendon, were stored or displayed at smaller local RAF station museums. The museum is located on a former aerodrome.

TripTide Thoughts

We enjoyed a unique experience learning about the history of aircrafts and the RAF. The aircraft are in great condition and provide an unforgettable link to our recent past.
