PIN Twickenham Stadium
Legendary Rugby Stadium
Twickenham Stadium is the spiritual and physical home of rugby union in England. This behemoth is the second largest stadium in the UK, after Wembley Stadium, the fourth largest in Europe, and has a capacity of 82,000 seats. All of England`s home games are played here as well as many important cup finals and club games. This stadium also hosts major concerts like Rihanna, the Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden...
The match day atmosphere is quite incredible and you need to experience this stadium once in your life, if you are a rugby fan.
History
The R. F. U. purchased the land in 1907 and built the first stadium in 1908. Previously this land was used to grow cabbages. (as remembered by the Cabbage Patch pub in town). The first game, between Harlequins v. Richmond, was played on 2 October 1909, and the first international, England v. Wales, on 15 January 1910.
At the time the stadium only had a capacity of 20000 seats. During World War I the ground was used for cattle, horse and sheep grazing. The stadium has grown exponentially and has been upgraded throughout the decades to to reach its existing state in 1995.
