Meze Mangal

Delicious Turkish Food in the heart of New Cross.

In 2012 The Evening Standard ran an article about how a local Turkish restaurant in South East London was scoring higher for customer satisfaction than the world famous Ritz Hotel on TripAdvisor. That place is Meze Mangal, a large restaurant on Lewisham Way that has some of the most divine, delicious and authentic food you are every likely to come across during your trip to London.

London is famed for its food. It is one of the most prestigious culinary capitals in the world and has an incredibly diverse menu on offer due to the amount of different restaurants establishing themselves in the capital. As with most things, the best known restaurants tend to lie within central London with places like Dishoom and Mr Bao often getting the limelight over lesser known establishments that do their business outside of the city centre and this forms part of Meze Mangal’s appeal. The restaurant is a real local haunt, with people arriving from nearby New Cross, Brockley, Peckham and Deptford to feast on some of South London’s finest grub. The portions are huge, the prices are extremely reasonable and the service is charming and extremely friendly – you are instantly made to feel at home. In terms of recommendations, get the lahmacun to start with – a flat bread the size of your head covered in lamb and herbs and at only £2.50 a go it offers real value for money. For the main get any of the grilled meats that are on offer, all are cooked to perfection on the charcoal grill in the open kitchen and the vegetarian options look just as appealing with an array of Mediterranean vegetable being available. Wash it all down with an Efe’s and you’ll go home feeling 2 stone heavier but extremely content.

So head on down to Meze Mangal for a true taste of Turkey in the creative hub of South London and get whisked away to the sunny shores of the Mediterranean
