Great tasting flavours served quickly and no fuss. Don't leave without trying the specials
PIN Tayyabs Restaurant
Authentic Punjabi East End Dining
A large curry house serving a variety of traditional fare that enjoys something approaching cult status with London diners. It should be on the trip planner of everyone visiting the capital. The restaurant opened in 1972 and its fame has spread since then. The restaurant serves a variety of Punjabi dishes renowned for their bold flavours and all delivered at a cost effective price. Open all day, it provides a uniquely hectic and busy eating experience. There is no need to book but expect to wait for up to an hour if you have not.
The Food
Diners should try the fiery grilled lamb chops which are delivered in a glorious combination of spices and flavours. Also notable are the rich dahls and masala channa; slow-cooked lamb curries; and great versions of Northern Indian staples – onion bhaji, spice-rubbed tikka, hot, buttery breads and juicy kebabs. Visitors should look to the daily specials, such as Karahi lamb chop curry on Thursdays, or meat biryani on Fridays. The corkage-free BYO (Bring Your Own) policy is a delightful riposte to some of the more upmarket curry houses up the road in the City.
TripTide Thoughts
We were lucky and went straight in at lunchtime where we were served quickly and efficiently. The tables for two are smallish but were more than off-set by the ‘big-ness’ of the dishes. Tremendous food and a great price. Every visitor should go here to experience authentic East End Punjabi dining.
How to get there
The best way to get there, aside from taking a black cab, is by going to either Whitechapel or Aldgate East tube stations and from there its about a 5 minute walk.
