The V & A Museum
London's most magnificent museum
Named after Queen Victoria and King Albert, the “V&A” is the largest museum in the world.
You might think that the 2 million objects are all about them, well: they are not.
You can surely find the magnificent queen’s crown and all of her jewels, but the museum is actually divided into 4 sections :
- Asia
- Furniture, Textiles and Fashion
- Sculpture, Metalwork, Ceramics & Glass
- Word & Image
I didn’t have the chance to see the Asia section even though I visited the museum until its closure (Which gives you a hint about the fact that you have to take a whole day to see everything).
This free-entrance museum has the most beautiful views I have ever seen thanks to its 2 big central rooms that allow corridors on the sides of upper floors to open a panoramic view.
What makes it unique is its adaptability for all the different ages: there are couches in almost every room for old people that may feel the need to sit down time to time, but there’s also some interactive objects right under the pieces of art for children to play with and entertain them.
The V&A is ancient and modern at the same time and regroups pretty much every type of art. The sculptures are probably the most beautiful pieces in this place. One of them is called “Trajan’s Column”, it’s a reproduction of the 30 meters column with a whole Cast engraved on it that was divided in two part for technical reason, and it’s absolutely wonderful. I remember the feeling I had as I entered the room and looked up: I was completely blown away by what was standing in front of me.
I was also stunned by this “working-chilling room” that had multiple desks with lamps, outlets, and ottomans.
That’s actually where I started to wrote what I love about the museum.
Anyway, all I can say about it is that I’m definitely going to come back to explore the areas that I haven’t seen yet.
My favourite time of the day was around 5 PM when I was all alone in the museum: all I could hear was the sound of the air conditioning machines. It was as if time had stopped as if I was trapped in this beautiful labyrinth.
The Victoria & Albert Museum is by far the one I love the most, and I would definitely advise you to go visit it during your stay in London!
