Movies At The Long Room
A break from the usual Mondays
Mondays can drag on a bit. It’s the first day of the week, it’s back to work and there’s a long list of things to do. Even for the humble freelancer like me, it’s hard to go through the day without thinking about the upcoming weekend…The obvious solution would be to go out in the evening, but the pub wouldn’t necessarily be my first port of call on a Monday! That was until my friend and I decided to check out ‘Movie Monday’ at the Long Room pub, Tooting.
The Long Room show recent films as well as some of the classics on most Mondays. The first time we went they were showing Disney’s 'Maleficent' which was the perfect choice for a cold evening. Before we got there, I imagined a TV standing in a quiet corner of the pub with a few chairs lined up in front of it...
However, we were pleasantly surprised. Firstly, it was free to enter and who doesn’t love a free event?
Secondly, far from being shoved in a corner, the entire lounge area was dedicated to the film screening. The chairs had been rearranged so that they were facing the projector screen that covered most of the back wall. We also had tables for our drinks and there was a super comfy-looking sofa right in front of the screen. Obviously, we got there too late to get that spot!
And thirdly, while we were enjoying the movie with our ciders, a bartender passed around free bags of popcorn! They weren’t tiny bags either…
The next time we went, we took advantage of their 2 for £12.50 burgers and saw a screening of 'Gone Girl'. It was busier that time and again there was free popcorn. Burgers, popcorn and a movie – the best ingredients for a good night out!
