PIN Alfie`s Antique Market
Finding Hidden Treasure in Marylebone
There are plenty of independent traders at Alfies selling a wide range of antiques, art and design pieces. The visitor will find lots of stalls specialising in 19th and 29th century décor, paintings, posters, porcelain, glass ceramics, clocks and costume jewellery making it one of London`s best antique markets. There is a mix of everything from antiques to art to design and there is a huge range of merchandise on show to keep the browser happy for hours. It is open from Tuesday to Saturday.
History
Started in 1976 by Bennie Gray, Alfies Antique Market began life as a derelict department store (previously called Jordans) in Church Street, Paddington. After an unsuccessful attempt to transform the place into a gallery, Bennie focused his attention on creating a hub for antiques dealers and it has flourished ever since. Today, the indoor market, which occupies four floors, is a rabbit warren of antiques, mid-century furniture, vintage clothes and collectables – it’s a bit off the beaten track as most visitors make a bee line toward Portobello but this market has its own charm.
