PIN Fitzroy Square
Home of the artist
The Fitzroy Square is located close to Warren Street Station and Euston Euston Road and surrounding by traditional London dwellings. This city landmark is right on the Bloomsbury border with plenty of historical and modern pubs, restaurants and shops. Everything in Bloomsbury seems connected with each other and in harmony with local culture and tradition.
Not far from the Square, there are some historical pubs and museums like the Pollock`s Toy Museum or the great British Museum, a perfect place to be add to your London Trip Planner.
A little history
The Fitzroy Square was named after the 18th century owner's - the Fitzroy family. The Square was created in the 1790's for Bloomsbury residents to perambulate. In its time the place has welcomed some hard drinking bohemians and artists who were a constant presence day and night.
Outside the park at number 29 visitors can see a part of the London's artistic legacy: the house where lived Virginia and Adrian Stephen, famous writers of the 20th century. The novelist Virginia Stephen, also known as Virginia Woolf was the head of an artistic association the Bloomsbury Group and the "Bloomsberries". The group gravitated around the Stephens family and their closest friends like the economist John Maynard Keynes and other critics and writers.
On the opposite corner, visitors can find a statue of the General Francisco De Miranda in honour of this Venezuelan revolutionary who foughthis whole life for the independence of Spain's British Colonies.
