Magic by the Square
Playhouse theatre is located in Northumberland Avenue near Trafalgar Square with its current show being the famous: `The Kite Runner.`
It was opened in 1882 by Sefton Henry Parry and was called 'The Royal Avenue Theatre.' Its first performance was Jacques Offenbach's Madame Favart. It also hosted comic operas, burlesques and farces. It for a brief period was a BBC recording studio for live performances, one being Pink Floyd. Its stage also hosted live performances by KISS, Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. In 1987 it was restored to its theatre usage, and held performances of 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses', 'Romeo and Juliet', 'The Rocky Horror Show' and now 'The Kite Runner.'
The Kite Runner is apparently fantastic (as was the book). The theatre itself is apparently beautiful with its red interior, and the staff are extremely friendly- definitely a thoroughly enjoyable outing for all.
