Playhouse theatre is located in Northumberland Avenue near Trafalgar Square with its current show being the famous: `The Kite Runner.`



More information

It was opened in 1882 by Sefton Henry Parry and was called 'The Royal Avenue Theatre.' Its first performance was Jacques Offenbach's Madame Favart. It also hosted comic operas, burlesques and farces. It for a brief period was a BBC recording studio for live performances, one being Pink Floyd. Its stage also hosted live performances by KISS, Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. In 1987 it was restored to its theatre usage, and held performances of 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses', 'Romeo and Juliet', 'The Rocky Horror Show' and now 'The Kite Runner.'

The Kite Runner is apparently fantastic (as was the book). The theatre itself is apparently beautiful with its red interior, and the staff are extremely friendly- definitely a thoroughly enjoyable outing for all.

How to get there
The nearest tube stations are Embankment (2 minute walk) (Bakerloo, Circle, District and Northern lines) and Charing Cross (Bakerloo and Northern lines.)

Buses to Charing Cross Station: 6, 9, 13, 15, 23, 139, 176.

By Car: The Playhouse Theatre is located within the London Congestion Charge Zone. The Charge Zone is active from 7am until 6pm and costs £10 per day. If you are driving to the theatre after 6pm then you will not have to pay the charge. The Playhouse Theatre is part of the Q-Park Scheme. The nearest participating car park is the Q Park near Charing Cross station in Spring Gardens (SW1A 2TS‬). Parking costs £18 for up to 3hrs, and £24 for 4hrs but theatregoers can save 50% if they have their tickets validated at the theatre.

The Box Office opening times: Monday-Saturday 10am-8pm.
