PIN The Fitzroy Tavern

... one of London`s most famous

The pub was named after the creator of Fitzroy Square - Charles Fitzroy. The Tavern, which was at its bohemian peak from the 1920s until the 1940s, became a meeting place for various artists , intellectuals , writers and drinkers of the era including Dylan Thomas , Julian Maclaren-Ross , Augustus John , George Orwell and Nina Hamnett.

The Fitzroy Tavern has been a regular gathering place for fans of Doctor Who since Thursday 1 November 1984. Fans meet there, informally, on the first Thursday evening of each month.

Inside a cavernous room in the first floor visitors can rediscover the real bar that was used in the 1920s, with a wall/glass which used to seperate women and men.

Upstairs it is a nice and cosy restaurant where you can get some home-made pies , burgers, salads and sandwiches. The place is quite quiet and a great place to meet friends. The interior decor is in harmony with its traditions are there are many pictures of how it was before famous writers came here like George Orwell and Nina Hamnett.

There is no music, no wifi , no internet so visitors can just enjoy the present moment. It is absorbing atmosphere that has proved inspirational to its many visitors past and present. Its ambience, images, decor and general vibe transports the drinker back to the 1920s.
