Unpacking contemporary art the gallery provides its audiences with a variety of opportunities to test out and practice this skill. They are committed to ensuring that the perspectives, views and experiences presented are open for all to engage with, regardless of age or experience.
History
Opened in 1999, Pump House Gallery is housed in a former Victorian industrial pump house used for the irrigation and fountains of Battersea Park. It was converted in 1992 into a park interpretation centre, education and exhibition space with the aid of a grant from English Heritage. Since 1999 it has run a year-round programme of contemporary visual arts, participation, education and events, working with local and international artists. In 2015 Enable Leisure & Culture, a newly established charitable trust, began managing the gallery on behalf of Wandsworth Council to continue its service to the local community.
TripTide Thoughts
Definitely well worth seeing. The exhibitions are free and there is also an activity room for groups. The staff were very friendly and informative about the building and the exhibition.
