The Sir Richard Steele

A Cosy Nook in A Quiet Part of North London

If you’re out of breathe on your way from Camden up to Hampstead, the Sir Richard Steele is one of London’s hidden gems. It’s the perfect oasis, located halfway up Haverstock Hill. By far the friendliest pub in the NW3 south triangle, the Sir Richard Steele is everything you want out of a traditional, yet relaxed, pub. It’s a uniquely London experience, drawing the weary traveller in for a good meal and a pint.

Peppered with historical images, the interior is warmly furnished. It even has a room nicknamed ‘the Nook’ – a perfect place to depart from the relentless wintery months. This is the setting for a great philosophy or literature discussion, as once you’re there, the bustle of London truly disappears. If visiting in the summer, it has a very nice beer garden out back as well, populated with flowers and trees.

It can feel a little sparse out on Haverstock Hill; there’s not much to see between Chalk Farm and Belsize Park stations. But if you find yourself in this niche part of the woods, the Sir Richard Steele can offer some respite on your journey. Tuck up with good food, a quirky interior and the warmth of the Nook, as this pub features all the major sporting events as well as hosting writer's groups and discussion groups - a truly eclectic venue, unique to NW3!
