The Amersham Arms
A real London night out
London’s nightlife is rather famously facing some challenging times at the moment. More and more venues are being shut down at an alarming rate as property developers aim to cash in on every spare bit of land they can. However, whilst the future of London’s nightlife looks a little gloomy, there is still some absolute gems hidden away within the capital which are a must for anyone planning to party on their visit to the city.
The Amersham Arms isn’t pretty from the front and to be honest it’s not that pretty on the inside. But what it does contain is a stonking atmosphere with some of the best tunes you’re likely to hear on a night out in London. Situated in the arty New Cross, The Amersham Arms is a real local’s haunt with crowds coming from the nearby Goldsmiths University and the surrounding areas to party the night away into the early hours. It’s a few yards down the road from the legendary ‘Venue’ but operates with a completely different crowd. There’s no dress code meaning it attracts a pretty eclectic bunch and the range of DJ’s they have on a Friday or Saturday night means that you’re likely to hear some of your favourite tunes booming out of their sound system. On Saturday’s the venue hosts live music from local and national talents and has seen many famous bands of yesteryear (Bloc Party, Jamie T, The Maccabees) pass through its doors on their way to success, so who knows you might see the next big thing!
Places like The Amersham Arms are keeping London’s nightlife thriving and without them the city would struggle. So head on down to a real London night out and boogie the night away to a variety of music from Dr Dre to Black Sabbath.
