PIN RYE books
Catch you in the Rye
Tucked away, Rye Books makes you go the extra mile and makes it worthwhile. It is further from the main street so only locals and those who did thorough research will find it. Events include, author readings, film nights, children’s story-time and Bea’s Baby Bop. Next day ordering, free local delivery & gift wrapping service.
The owner, Alastair Kenward has been in the bookselling business for about ten years, opening Rye Books four years ago. He usually stands behind the counter himself, giving friendly advice and chatting with customers. Every single book seems to be hand-picked and belongs to its rightful place. The categorisation of book types makes it easier to find what you are looking for. The colourful and welcoming atmosphere of Rye Books is what makes you want to stay and browse a little longer. There is even a small section of second-hand books and a bigger stall opens up on Saturdays (the mini cart parked in front of Rye Books converts into a market stall). You can find a great variety of cookbooks, fashion photography, travel, London history and books for children and parents.
How to get there
The closest stations – East Dulwich and Peckham Rye. It is a bit of a walk, but the area is lovely and you can grab a bite in local cafes on your way (Duck Egg, Blue Mountain, Blackbird, Franklins and many more). You can take 12 or 197 buses from Peckham Rye station and it will get you to Upland Road where you can easily find Rye Books.
