Old Street Bounce
Perfect Synchronicity
It seems that more and more childhood pleasures are being reinvented for adults. This is the case with Bounce, a bar and ping-pong concoction that has now two locations in London (well, at least two, and I’ve been to both.) My suggestion? Go to the one next to Old Street.
The reason why I suggest this might not be accurate, mind you, but this is from personal experience. The Bounce location next to Old Street is the one I went to first. It was for a friend’s birthday, and when I went in everything was glowing. The walls were graphitised with phosphorescent paint, and lit up everything with an underground party vibe. The music was fabulous – I’ve never purposefully had Shazaam on for so long consecutively. And then, it switched.
The lights went on, and, instead of the night being over, like I thought, the music changed genres and suddenly the venue had adopted a retro-vibe. Each rotation lasted only so long, though I can’t remember specifics – I want to say thirty minutes. The switch-up made things consistently fun and exciting. Getting drunk and swatting ping pong balls at your friends is guaranteed to be hilarious.
The Old Street Bounce was fun, and different, and so exciting. The one located near Chancery Lane, however, only had the one version – the retro – and it didn’t switch it up. I’m not sure if I went on the wrong night, or if they simply didn’t have that feature. The music wasn’t as good, either, and because my expectations were so high, I was left quite disappointed. That being said, the concept is fantastic. I highly recommend booking a table for either a fun night out or a special event.
