Marylebone Village

London’s Best Kept Secret

Marylebone has been a well-to-do area in London since at least the seventeenth century – as demonstrated by the catalogue of famous residents (past and present). By the 1990's it had become quite a fashionable destination with numerous smart boutiques burgeoning along its backbone - Marylebone High Street. These were followed by several trendy restaurants. Today it’s a world-famous shopping destination, crammed with chic fashion labels and aspirational 'home' shops. Visitors can find brands like the Conran Shop, Whistles, The Kooples and Skandium right there at their finger-tips. There are also some excellent pubs and cafes as well as appealing charity shops.

Visitors can skip the claustrophobia of Oxford Street and wander along the quieter, elegant Marylebone High Street. It is rightly regarded as 'nicer' alternative to the bustling West End favourites and although the natives regard it as their village it has none of the pretensions of some of the city' supposedly 'posher' neighbourhoods. Stray tourists can find a welcome in many of its local establishments. The area is a first-class eating and drinking destination, including the famous Chiltern Firehouse and newish Bar Termini Centrale (especially for Negroni lovers). There are also some family favourites in this neck of the woods - Madame Tussauds, the Sherlock Holmes Museum and the Wallace Collection. But many just come here to potter through the 'village's' Georgian streets and 'imbibe the vibe'.

Look out for Chiltern Street (and its bridal emporiums), Moxon Street (follow your nose to La Fromagerie) and Marylebone Lane (home of ribbon specialist VV Rouleaux)
