Wilton's Music Hall
An architectural and historical gem: the oldest music hall in the world
Nestled in the depths of nowhere Shadwell is one of the most beautifully preserved music halls of the Victorian age; Wilton’s Music Hall is still entirely original in its interior and plays host to a variety of events throughout the year. It prides itself on being the oldest Music Hall in the world that is still operational.
My visit was for Halloween, where Wilton’s played host to an improvised scary story night put on by the Society of Strange. Three witty scary stories were improvised out of thin air by these talented performers. With laughs and scares a-plenty, it was the perfect setting to enjoy a unique night out in London.
Architecture aficionados will really get a kick out of Wilton’s, which still has all its original detailing and period columns, as well as beautifully painted ceilings. This is definitely a spot that is out of the way, but their events are well worth making the trip out for.
If you want to experience something a little bit different, in a building not too many people know about in London, Wilton’s music hall is for you. They have a great cocktail bar and are always providing nights out of a unique variety.
