PIN St John, Maltby Street

It`s all about the bread

The St John bakery is located in Ropewalk a hidden and narrow passageway where once ropes were constructed. Now, in one of its arches you can buy some great cakes.

St John is the home of an unmissable pitstop that is to bread addicts what a CAMRA pub is to beer drinkers. To entice a few more customers, the place opened a wine bar and a little terrace and allowed passers-by to stop take a libation or bite to eat in a vibrant environment. There are specials and a great variety of consumables. They sell first rate bread and their signature pastries are richly indulgent Eccles cakes and custard and chocolate doughnuts.

It is only open on weekend when the nearby Maltby St and Ropewalk are packed with visitors to the local market - itself filled with a huge number and diversity of stalls.

Triptide thoughts

What an amazing place. It's a unique bakery with lots of extras retaining a highly original atmosphere. Lots going on in and around Maltby Street every weekend and should definitely be part of anyone's trip plan.
